The Standards We Expect
Participatory approaches to developing person-centred support.

Standards We Expect
This is a two year research and development project supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. It runs to the end of 2007.

It aims to encourage and guide the development of person centred support in eight areas across the United Kingdom.

The project is asking:
  • What is meant by person centred support?
  • What are the barriers to it?
  • How can they be overcome?
We want service users, carers, staff and organisations to have their say and be involved in making things change for the better. Our project tries to work closely with service users and staff. This is because what they say has often not been listened to.

The project is run by a consortium (group) of four organisations and four individuals. Led by Shaping Our Lives, the national service user network, the partners are Values Into Action, Centre for Social Action at De Montfort University and the Centre for Citizen Participation at Brunel University.

We are working with eight places to do this research and development work. What we do with each depends on what people say to us. It depends on what changes they are making.

There is also a network of twelve more partners who are part of the project. Our aim is to help bring about broader change to develop person centred support.
