Website Accessibility Policy
The Standards We Expect project wants all our information to be accessible. That includes this website. We thought a lot about access when we designed it.
We have tried hard to get it right but we know it might not work for everyone. We want to learn how to make it better. If you don't find this website accessible in any way please tell us. We want to work with service users to make it better.
This is how we have tried to make the website accessible:
- We have used simple directions to tell people how to change their display. This should help access.
- We always try to use plain English so our words are easy to understand. Different people have written different parts of the website so it won't all be the same.
- We have tried to keep the design and layout simple. We are using a simple colour scheme with good contrast for people with visual impairments.
- We use the Ariel font because people find it easy to read. We have made it 'size 14' to assist people with visual impairments.
- There is no sound on the website. This is so deaf people and people with hearing impairment are not excluded.
- In the 'Reports' section all reports are Word documents (rather than pdf documents). This is because some people find pdf documents inaccessible.
- The site does not use moving pictures, or 'flash technology'.
- Colour used is not essential to meaning in terms of context or markup
- Not underlining links for clarity sake
- The people who designed the site have experience of accessible websites.
Testing
This website has been tested using automated tests
This site has been tested by service users who are part of our project.
We will listen to what people say to us about the website.
We will make changes to the website if people find it difficult to use. We don't know how long the website will carry on. We will look at it again in 2008 to make changes.
