Statement of Equal Opportunities

The Standards We Expect Project believes that some people and some groups in our society have more power, choice and control over their lives than others.

We believe that some groups and some individuals are treated less fairly because of who they are.

This unfair treatment is called discrimination. People can face discrimination because of
  • HIV status
  • Race
  • Ethnic or national origin
  • Age
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender
  • Marital status
  • Religious beliefs
  • Responsibility for dependents
  • Disability (see below)
It can be against people because they are disabled, such as
  • People with physical and/or sensory impairments
  • People with learning difficulties
  • People with invisible impairments
  • Mental health service users/survivors
People can face discrimination because of the health and/or social services they receive.

In its work The Standards We Expect Project will challenge individual and institutional discrimination made on any grounds. This includes direct and indirect discrimination.

The Standards We Expect Project is committed to working towards creating an equal and fair society where people have the same opportunities, choices, rights and responsibilities. A society where people have choice and control over the way they live and the support services they use.
